Our Experience

Our diverse team consists of US Armed Forces veterans, former NSA and FBI personnel, IT auditors for the Big 4, and Federal Government contractors. The leadership team alone has over 45 years of combined experience in penetration testing, IT controls, and information security assessments. Team members hold certifications as Certified Ethical Hackers (CEH), Certified Penetration Testers (CPT), and we even have one Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Our resources are industry seasoned and experienced penetration testers.

In addition, our team also boasts expertise in performing compliance-based audits related to, but not limited to, the requirements of NIST 800-53, NIST Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity, ISO (27000, 27001, 27002, 27003, 27004, 27005), Sarbanes Oxley 404, and Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.

Our previous engagements have led us to work with private and public companies in industries including financial services, manufacturing, information services, telecommunications, oil & gas, alternative energy, mining, agriculture, state & local government, and, software. We frequently present on cybersecurity for our clients and for larger conventions and conferences.

Bill Evert

Founder, CEO

Bill has more than 23 years of managing, developing, and leading multiple teams of professionals on cyber security, governance, risk, and compliance efforts including cyber security assessments and penetration testing for major corporations and governmental entities to smaller organizations to evaluate their information technology systems and controls.

Additionally, he has prepared security assessments and executed risk-based audit plans in corporate environments, including financial services, manufacturing, information services, telecommunications, oil & gas, alternative energy, mining, agriculture, state & local government, and, software. Bill also has public accounting and internal audit experience, and specializes in financial reporting, consulting, and SOC reporting for both public and private companies in a variety of industries. In addition, Bill was the founder and CEO of a multi-state manufacturing and leasing company where he obtained an appreciation of the non-accounting issues business leaders deal with on a daily basis.

Bill has presented at the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Symposium, the Denver Colorado Executive Leadership Forum, Securities Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Chapter of Financial Executives International, and the North American Petroleum Accounting Conference. In addition, Bill has authored articles on FIN 44, ERM, and SOX 404, and has been frequently quoted on forensics in Accounting Today.

Donald McLaughlin

Partner, Lead Consultant
Donald is a Lead Consultant with eight years of information technology experience with a focus on cybersecurity. He is a nine-year veteran of the Armed Forces (Air Force) where he was
recruited by the National Security Agency (NSA) to conduct Digital Network Exploitation. During his
time with the NSA, he obtained the Network+ and Security+ certifications. Additionally, Donald
became the lead trainer and created the Job Qualification Standards for his Digital Network
Exploitation position.

Prior to his time at Cornerstone Partners LLC, Donald formerly worked for a Denver cybersecurity
company conducting security assessments for clients in fields of healthcare, manufacturing,
government, and telecommunications.
He currently holds and maintains the certifications for Certified Ethical Hacker and Certified
Penetration Tester. Donald specializes in Wireless Local Area Network technologies, privilege
escalation, Windows OS penetration, web applications, SCADA systems, and layer 2 attacks.

Donald has always been driven to excellence, as seen by various awards (Air Force Commendation
Medal and Joint Service Awards), and continues to strive for excellence in an ever-changing
technology field.

Brian Cather

Partner, Lead Consultant
Brian is a Lead Consultant who enjoys fully utilizing his Ethical Hacking expertise as a Penetration
Tester. Brian specializes in layer 2 attacks, SCADA system testing, VOIP exploitation, Man in the
Middle attacks, and WordPress Security, but enjoys having a breadth of knowledge in all technology areas. Brian has the Nessus Certification and is a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).

He has presented at the Rocky Mountain Information Security Conference and at the Denver
Association of Government Accountants (AGA) in the past on topics regarding Penetration Testing
and Active Directory Auditing, and Hacking for Good.

In a past life at Deloitte, Brian performed multiple security assessments for the Department of Health
and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the United States Postal
Service. Brian has expertise in the SOX 404 ITGC, FedRAMP, PCI-DSS, NIST Cybersecurity and
800-53 compliance frameworks.

Who We Are Outside The Office

Our staff enjoys the Colorado lifestyle of hiking, biking, skiing, and spending time with our families. On the team, we even have amateur racecar drivers, and a festival performer, rugby coach, and part time soccer fans. If you ever visit our office, you’ll find that we are very dog friendly!
